This intense training in 'Understanding Mediation' is designed to help you gain the capability and confidence to understand, implement, manage and lead mediation processes in the family context. It is currently delivered online in 12 half-day sessions, although it can be delivered as a 6 day course in-person, or a combination of 10 online half-day sessions plus 1 day in-person (all dependent on covid-related gathering/travelling restrictions).
This course is fully accredited by the Open College Network (OCN www.ocnlondon.org.uk/) at Level 3 (equivalent to an Advanced Diploma) offering three units with a total of 8 credits. The learning integrates theoretical, practical and self-reflective aspects. You will learn about conflict and mediation within different contexts involving families, the practical skills and mindsets needed to be a mediator, the process of mediation and methods to continue your professional development.
The format of the course includes pre-course reading, online face-to-face delivery with group discussions, practical exercises and simulations of detailed mediation scenarios, as well as personal study and reflection. The assessment process involves formative assessment, an assessed role play, reflective logs and three written assignments (Q&A); you will have 4 weeks after the course to finalise the written work.
