Professional Practice Consultancy is a relationship of support and oversight between the Professional Practice Consultant (PPC) and another family mediator. Supporting mediators in their day-to-day practice, working with mediators on their accreditation portfolio and providing a sounding board for mediator dilemmas forms part of a PPC’s role.
The online 15 hour guided learning course will equip you for supervising family mediators. Successful completion of the course and assessment will enable you apply to become registered as PPC with the Family Mediation Council. Once registered, a PPC is recognised by all member organisations and eligible to work with members of any member organisation.
Delegates must:
- Hold FMCA status
- Have been practicing continuously as an accredited family mediator for at least three years.
- Have current membership of an FMC member organisation (Please supply your membership certificate at the time of registration)
- Be supported by their own PPC in training as a PPC. (please supply a letter of support from your PPC when registering)
Supporting family mediators as a PPC is a rewarding and demanding career choice. A detailed knowledge of FMC practice, procedures and guidelines is required.
The course will:
- Set out the roles and responsibilities of the PPC, both in relation to general practice and in relation to accreditation, reaccreditation, and complaints
- Exploring the role of Professional Practice Consultant
- Consider the implications of the FMC Code of Practice, professional competence standards, and complaints procedure in relation to the PPC role.
- Promote understanding and application of the FMC PPC Code of Practice and guidance
- Consider approaches and practicalities for professional practice consultancy
- Consider the balancing supporting aspects of the role with the need to maintain professional standards and public protection
- Examine potential conflicts within the PPC role and matters that the PPC cannot take responsibility for
- Sharer resources and support for undertaking the role
- Consider contacting and insurance
- Include the ongoing professional requirements as a PPC.
Attendance at all sessions and successful completion of a final assessment is required to complete this course.
